WBB | Nilsen and Iozzia Shine in Season Finale

SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco State women's basketball team wrapped up the 2017-18 campaign on Saturday night, falling to visiting Humboldt State 76-52.

Erika Nilsen and Rachel Iozzia both wrapped up their SF State (5-20/3-19 CCAA) careers on Saturday night in strong fashion, accounting for seven of the eight Gator three-pointers. Nilsen tied a season-high four from beyond the arc for all 12 of her points. Iozzia scored nine while moving into fourth place all-time in Gator history for three-pointers in a season, ending with 56. Iozzia also sits fifth all-time in assists in a season with 121.

Jhaina Stephens led the Gators with 14 points and 11 rebounds, capping off a strong season in which she had 12 double-doubles. Amani Alexander had nine and Kaleigh Pugh scored eight and hauled in six rebounds.

Stephens narrowly missed breaking into the top-ten for rebounds in a season as the junior notched 246. Trina Easley holds that ten spot with 249 boards, which she recorded in 1981-82.

Third place Humboldt State (15-12/14-8 CCAA) dropped 14 three-pointers, which is the most by the Lumberjacks this season and the most allowed by SF State this year.

Stephens and Pugh both hit jumpers to put the Gators up 4-0. Meanwhile the Lumberjacks utilized runs of six and seven points to take a 13-5 advantage. The visitors hauled in seven offensive boards in the first ten minutes, including four in a little over a minute, which helped them take a 20-8 lead into the second.

Humboldt State hit back-to-back triples from Catherine Rees to push their lead to 26-8 to start the second. Stephens ended the 11-0 run with a nice contested layup in the lane and followed with a jumper to cut it to 14. Nilsen hit SF State's first three-pointer of the day off a nice pass form Pugh at the five-minute mark, bringing the score to 28-15. With 2:09 to play in the first half, Iozzia hit three-pointer No. 54 of the year to take sole possession of fourth-place all-time in Gator history for three's in a season.

The Lumberjacks continued their dominance beyond the arc as Isamar Conde hit a three with 6:09 left in the third, their 11th of the night, to put the visitors up 51-26. Nilsen and Iozzia answered with back-to-back threes of their own with two minutes to go, bringing the score to 60-35.

The duo would pair up for another three-pointer with 5:47 to go in regulation as Iozzia passed from the corner to Nilsen who converted from the left side of the arc. The Gators would score the last six points of the night, with Alexander and Pugh hitting layups and Stephens netting a jumper.
