SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State baseball team dropped a 10-4 decision in the third game of the four-game series versus Cal State San Marcos on Saturday at Maloney Field.
After a thirty minute rain delay, Cal State San Marcos (10-7/5-6 CCAA) took the lead in the second off of Dominic Antonacci's infield single that dribbled between pitcher
Matthew Hernandez and second baseman
Zac Neumann.
The Gators (5-15/5-10 CCAA) defense helped Hernandez out with three double plays through the first three innings, though none of the Cougars three runs in that span were earned. The Cougars' fourth run came in the sixth as a result of shortstop
Jackson Kritsch's second error of the day.
Brady Dorn and
Trevor Rogers registered back-to-back singles in the fourth, then Dorn kept running and scored on a bobbled ball in the infield to get the Gators on the board.
The Gators loaded them up in the bottom of the sixth and
Jason Hare was hit in the leg to bring in a run, which chased CSUSM starter Brandon Bachman. Two batters later,
Jordan Abernathy's sac fly allowed Dorn to tag up and score.
Zac Neumann drew a walk and reloaded the bases with two outs but Garrett Apker induced a
Jack Harris popup to maintain the lead.
Cal State San Marcos broke the game open with a three-run seventh inning off of reliever
Jack Higgins, and the Cougars scored two more off of
Cy Vojak in the eighth.
Brett Elgin allowed a two-out RBI to Näshéa Diggs in the ninth.
Hernandez struck out six over six innings of work to keep the game close. He allowed eight hits and none of the four runs charged against him were earned. Brandon Bachman (2-1) worked five innings for the Cougars and picked up the win. The Cougars bullpen allowed one run, a
Jordan Abernathy homer that made it 9-4 in the eighth.
