BB | Gators Fall to Nationally-Ranked Otters in Opener

SEASIDE, Calif. — The San Francisco State baseball team dropped the series opener at No. 16 Cal State Monterey Bay, 15-6, on Friday at the Otter Sports Complex.

San Francisco State (20-23/19-18 CCAA) trailed 5-0 early after the Otters (32-11/26-11 CCAA) scored in each of the first four innings before the Gators pulled within a run with a four-run fifth. Jordan Abernathy led off the inning with his second homer of the season. Antone Self followed with a single, then moved up 90 feet on a balk. Two batters later, Self scored when David Mansell reached on an error. Jack Harris, Chris Smunty, and Brady Dorn all singled, resulting in two more runs that made it 5-4. Harris tied the game in the seventh when he turned the first into his team-leading sixth homer of the season.

Things unraveled in the bottom of the seventh though. The Otters batted around and plated 10 runs to retake the lead, 15-5.

In the ninth, Harris reached on an error and later scored on a Brady Dorn RBI single to right center.
