BURNABY, B.C. — The San Francisco State men's wrestling team notched a 38-15 road victory on Friday at the NCAA's only Canadian member, Simon Fraser.
The Clan, which is receiving votes in the latest NCAA Division II poll, saw its losing streak extended to six while the Golden Gators snapped a three-match skid.
San Francisco State recorded three falls in the match by
Jordan Gurrola (11-6),
Mason Boutain (1-2), and
Justin Pichedwatana (12-7).
Brandon Vu (8-9) recorded a technical fall at 125 lbs. and
Andrew Herrera recorded an 8-2 victory at 197 lbs. The Gators also won a pair of bouts by forfeit while the Gators conceded the heavyweight bout to SFU's Ciaran Ball, the No. 6 ranked heavyweight wrestler in D2.
Head Coach Jason Welch: "It's been a great trip up to Vancouver. We competed well and I can feel our momentum starting to build for postseason. I'm excited to head to Portland for an Open and then win some matches at home before the postseason. We will peak when it counts most."
Both teams will head to Oregon for the Clackamas Open hosted by Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, Oregon. The event will take place on Sunday, January 20 with bouts beginning at 10 a.m.
