SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The San Francisco State women's soccer team lost a heartbreaker on Friday afternoon in a 1-0 overtime loss at Cal State San Bernardino.
- Despite having a 1-1 draw in a weather-shortened season opener, this was the first overtime match of the season for the Gators.
- The Gators have been shut out six times the season.
- SF State (2-10-1/0-8 CCAA) was outshot 9-4(5-3) by the Coyotes (4-9-1/2-6 CCAA).
The Gators took the first shot of the game on Emily Kaleal's attempt in the first minute but it was wide right. Kaleal had another look in the sixth minute that was saved. The Gators kept the Coyotes from attempting a shot on goal in the first half but CSUSB went on the attack to begin the second half. Hayley Garriott made the stop on Jessica Hernandez's shot in the 47th minute, then neither team had another shot until the 68th minute when another Kaleal shot was saved. Hernandez fired a shot in the 89th minute that was saved and sent the match into overtime. Kaylah Wanna's shot in the 96th minute was saved by Garriott but in the 98th minute, Natalie Day intercepted a pass, dribbled towards the goal, and launched a shot from 25 yards out and over Garriott's head to stun the Gators.
Garriott finished with a season-high four saves while Sophia Cortez made three for the Coyotes.
The Gators head to No. 25 Cal Poly Pomona for a 2 p.m. contest on Sunday, October 27.
