SAN RAFAEL, California - The San Francisco State women's basketball team fell to host Dominican University, 88-71, on Wednesday night.
- SF State (0-3) posted a 22-point first quarter for the early lead and bounced back in the third with 28 points, shooting 44 and 43 percent, respectively, in those frames. The Penguins (2-1) utilized a 57 percent second half to fend off the Gators and shot 44 percent from deep in the contest.Â
- Jolene Armendariz led the way with 28 points and was 6-of-11 from deep with four steals. It is the most three-pointers by a Gator since 2017 when Courtenay Brown made six against Dominican.Â
- Taimane Lesa-Hardee added 13 points, Samantha Erisman padded the stat sheet with 12 points and seven boards with two assists.Â
- Madison Corder tied a career high with eight rebounds.

Erisman began the game with a layup for the early lead. Following an Ashley Hart bucket, Erisman drove to the hoop again for the finish and Armendariz dropped in a three for the 9-5 advantage. Armendariz added a layup off a behind-the-back dish from Erisman as the Gators now led by six as part of a 7-2 run. The Penguins cut it to four, 11-7, from the line until Armendariz added another splash from the top right of the arc off another nice pass from Erisman to make it 15-9. Dominican got a triple of their own to cut the Gator lead in half, Armendariz's sharp shooting continued as she worked a movie to her right and made her third three of the evening that put the Gators back up by six. Erisman added two free throws in the closing minute as the Gators led 22-18 after one.Â

Dominican quickly tied it with four quick points to start the second, capped off by a three from Julia Razo. Armendariz ended the run with a jumper from just outside the paint. The Penguins got their first lead of the night with just over six left in the half on a pair of three throws, and went up 30-25 on a 6-0 run that Hart ended with a layup. Another run, this time of eight points, widened the lead to 38-27. With just over a minute left, Giselle Mahinay cut it to ten with a jumper, but Dominican's Jessica Armstrong added a layup as the hosts went into the half up 46-32.
Four more quick points to start the half extended the Penguin lead. Lesa-Hardee completed the drive and bucket to end the run and Hart sunk the corner three that made it 52-37. Lesa-Hardee added another bucket with just over six left that made it an 18-point game, and Hart cut it to 14 with a layup. With 4:42 left, Lesa-Hardee got the layup and the foul that made it 61-49, and completed the and-one play. Armendariz's three continued the rally and cut to six, 61-55, as SF State battled back with just over two left in the frame, and, following a Penguin triple, Aermendariz went deep again that made it a five-point contest. A pair of three throws put Dominican back up by ten as we went to the fourth down 70-60.
The hosts came out with eight points to start the fourth as they looked to complete the comeback. Corder made. Layup that made it 78-63 but the Penguins relied on their three-point shot as they built a formidable lead. Armendariz would add another three that cut it to 18 and Lesa-Hardee made a free throw with five seconds left.
SF State begins CCAA play on Thursday, November 21 against Cal State Dominguez Hills. Live results and a stream will be provided.
