GREAT FALLS, Mont. — Three San Francisco State wrestling team posted a perfect 3-0 day on Friday at the Battle of the Rockies Duals hosted by Providence. The Gators topped MSU-Northern 23-20, host Providence 34-18, and Simon Fraser 31-21.
Maxamillian Schneider, No. 5
Justin Pichedwatana, and
Justin Ramos led the charge, all posting 3-0 days. The match versus MSU-Northern was close early on. The Lights' Rob Pair picked up the fall at 125 pounds but SF State's
Nathan Cervantez answered with a fall at 133 pounds. Schneider gave the Gators the match lead, 15-9. The 157-pounder needed just 31 seconds to pin his opponent. The Lights picked up wins at 174 pounds and 197 pounds to tie the match at 20-20 but heavyweight
Justin Ramos gave the Gators the edge with a 6-4 decision.
The Gators jumped out to a quick 15-0 lead versus the host Argonauts thanks to a forfeit, a Cervantez decision, and an
Alex Felix pin at 141 pounds in 1:23. The Argonauts picked up a pin at 149 pounds but the Gators picked up wins at 157 pounds thanks to Schneider, who earned a major decision, and at 174 pounds, where
Tyee Ducharme earned a tech fall. At 184 pounds, Pichedwatana sealed the victory with a major decision. Ramos recorded a fall in 1:14 to add six more points.
The Gators jumped out to another lead in their final bout of the day with wins in the first two weight classes. Schneider recorded another fall and did so in just 38 seconds, improving to 3-0 on the day and 6-0 on the season. Pichedwatana sealed another victory with a tech fall over Doug Peyser to put the Gators up 28-15. Ramos finished things off with a narrow 5-4 decision for the 10-point team victory.
