SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The San Francisco State baseball team got a stellar pitching performance from Jordyn Eglite and the Gators hit four homers but split its Saturday doubleheader, winning 3-2 before dropping the seven-inning nightcap 10-6, at Fiscalini Field.
- The Gators (17-7-1/15-7 CCAA) hit four homers on the day, bringing their season total to 19. Antone Self had one in each game and Jonah Gonzales went back-to-back with Self in game two. Jack Harris also crushed his fourth homer of the season.
- Eglite pitched into the eighth inning and left with two outs, the longest outing by a Gators starter this season.
- The Coyotes' (12-23/9-14 CCAA) tallied 13 hits in game two. SF State has now allowed 10 or more hits in six of its last nine games.
- The Gators have committed at least one error in their last 16 games.
GAME ONE
- Eglite labored in the first inning before settling down. He beaned leadoff batter AJ Barraza, who moved up on a sacrifice bunt. Eglite sailed a pickoff attempt into center, which allowed Barraza to get to third. He then scored on a wild pitch.
- The Gators took the lead for good in the second inning on Antone Self's two-out, two-run homer to left field.
- In the seventh inning, Harley Lopez hit a two-out single through the right side that scored Jack Harris, who reached on a throwing error.
- Lopez's RBI proved pivotal after a two-base throwing error set up a Barraza RBI double in the eighth inning.
- Eglite (3-2) scattered four hits and allowed just two runs over seven and two thirds innings. He struck out five and issued just one free pass.
- Joshua Romero earned his sixth save with one and a third innings of work. He didn't actually throw a pitch in the eighth. Romero entered with runners on the corners but picked off Carter Kimberly to end the eighth, then worked a scoreless ninth.
- Alan Vasquez (0-1) went six innings for the Coyotes. Vasquez also struck out five but gave up the two-run homer to Self in the second inning. Austyn Coleman gave up the costly insurance run, which was unearned, in the eighth.
GAME TWO
- The Coyotes took a 2-0 lead in the first and never trailed. They added three more runs in the second to make it a 5-0 deficit.
- Harris hit a two-out homer in the fifth to get the Gators on the board.
- CSUSB extended its lead to 7-1 in the fifth with another pair of runs.
- Self and Gonzales hit back-to-back homers in the bottom of the fifth, and the Gators cut the lead to 7-4 thanks to RBI singles from Harris and Brady Dorn.
- CSUSB got a run back in the sixth on Kyle Csakan's solo home run.
- Jason Nall's two-out, bases-loaded single scored a pair in the seventh to make it 10-5.
- Dorn drove home a run in the bottom of the seventh with a sac fly but that's all the Gators got, stranding Harris at third.
- Riley Cleary (1-1) gave up seven runs on 11 hits, both season-highs, over four and a third innings and saw his ERA jump from 1.56 to 4.15.
- Nate Jenkins allowed one run in an inning and two thirds of work.
- Ryan Nabas didn't allow a hit in two thirds of an inning but was responsible for a pair of runs.
- Daniel Jimenez allowed a two-run single with the runs charged to Nabas before recording the final out in the top of the seventh.
The series concludes as the Gators take on the Coyotes on Sunday, April 7 at 11 a.m. at Fiscalini Field. Be sure to follow San Francisco State baseball on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook at @sfstatebaseball.
