By the Numbers

  • SF State (38-18) went 1-2 in the CCAA Tournament, which was their first postseason appearance since 2007. The Gators knocked out top-seed UC San Diego last night 3-0 for their fifth win over a ranked team this season.
  • Lehua DeLeon got the first Gator hit of the game as she beat out a single to second in the fifth. The Gators could only muster two hits in the contest, which is the second fewest this season.
  • In the sixth, Brylynn Vallejos scored on a sac fly by Castro to give her the record for most runs in a season with 54. The CCAA Freshman of the Year now owns the program record for runs and hits, and is on pace to shatter the batting average record of .406 that was set in 2006.

How They Scored
  • The Otters (29-24) scored three in the second, which came on a RBI single by Forbes, a bases loaded walk, and a fielder's choice off the bat of Hukkanen.
  • Monterey Bay doubled their lead in the fourth, which started with a RBI base hit by Felox and a two-run single by Burt up the middle as they pulled ahead 6-0.
  • In the fifth, Felix singled to center to score Forbes as they went up 7-0.
  • The Gators offense found life in the sixth, with pinch hitter Andrea Hildan leading off with a hit-by-pitch. Sydney Jenkins then singled to left and Vallejos loaded the bases with another hit-by-pitch. Hildan got SF State on the board as she scored on a wild pitch, and Hayley Nunes plated Jenkins on a groundout to second to make it 7-2. Michelle Castro hit a foul to left that was deep enough to allow the speedy Vallejos to tag up from third as the Gators now only trailed by four.
