CHICO, Calif. — The San Francisco State baseball team dropped the series finale at Chico State on Sunday, 6-4.
- SF State (7-3/1-3 CCAA) outhit Chico State (7-3/3-1 CCAA) 10-9 but couldn't get an early 3-0 lead to stick.
- SF State had just two hits over the final four innings. Over the same span, Chico State faced the minimum thanks to a caught stealing and a double play ball.
- Jackson Kritsch went 4-for-5 with two runs. He singled, doubled, and tripled but came up a homer short of the cycle. He added another single in the sixth but hit into a game-ending double play.
- The Gators stranded eight, including the bases loaded in the first and fifth innings.
- The first three Gators up singled and Jonah Gonzales came home on Kritsch's single and an error on the play. Thaddeus Wilson's RBI single up the middle brought in another run but SF State left the bases loaded.
- Kritsch led off the third with a double down the right field line and moved up 90 feet on a Tyler Rogers groundout. Kritsch later scored on a two-out single from Richie Rios.
- Gators starter Riley Cleary ran into trouble in the bottom of the third. He hit leadoff batter JT Navarro, who moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. A single and another wild pitch got the Wildcats on the board, and three consecutive singles tied the game at 3-3.
- Kritsch went down the right field line again in the fifth, this time for a triple, then scored on a Rogers groundout. Jason Hare walked, Wilson singled, and they both moved up 90 feet on a wild pitch. Rios drew a 3-0 count and was intentionally walked to load the bases. That worked in the Wildcats' favor as they got a fielder's choice and groundout to avoid further damage.
- Navarro walked to lead off the seventh and scored on a fielder's choice to tie the game at 4-4 in the seventh. With runners on second and third, Adam Munoz delivered a two-run single to left that turned out to be the game-winner.
- Cleary allowed three runs on seven hits, and struck out four in four innings. Chico State struck for three runs on four hits in the third against him.
- Nate Jenkins (2-1) came on in relief and pitched a perfect fifth and sixth inning before running into trouble himself in the seventh when an infield error loaded the bases.
- Mike Manley got a strikeout but the Wildcats tied it on a fielder's choice, then took the lead on a two-out, two-run single.
- Sebastian Selway got the final out of tge seventh and Luis Salinas pitched a perfect eighth.
- Wildcats starter Austin McFarlane gave up three runs in three innings. Josh Verdon worked the next two and two thirds and SF State regained the lead off of him.
- Alex Kent (2-0) only faced six batters but was credited with two and a third innings and the win.
- Kristian Scott picked up his second save with a scoreless ninth inning.
The Gators return home to Maloney Field, where they'll host Cal State San Marcos for a four-game series beginning Friday, February 21 at 2 p.m. The series will be broadcast on the CCAA Network with live stats available at sfstategators.com.
