SB | Gators Fall Late, Win Big Versus Cal State San Bernardino

SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State softball team lost the lead late in game one but bounced back in game two of Friday's CCAA doubleheader versus Cal State San Bernardino. The Gators dropped game one 6-4 and cruised to a 9-1 six-inning win in game two.

  • Brylynn Vallejos had two more stolen bases and leads the nation with 22.
  • The Gators (9-8/5-5 CCAA) outhit CSUSB (9-6/7-3 CCAA) 13-8 in game one but fell victim to a four-run sixth inning.
  • SF State again outhit the Coyotes again in game two, 10-8.

How They Scored

  • The Gators left the bases loaded in the first but scratched a run across in the second. Samantha Alvarez singled and got all the way to third on an error in left field. Andrea Hildan brought her home with a bunt single back to the pitcher.
  • SF State added on in the third with a four-hit inning. Katelyn Sturm, Tianna Jacques, and Sydney Jenkins all singled to load the bases. A fielder's choice made it two outs but Alvarez cleared the bases with a double to right center.
  • In the fifth inning, a Gators throwing error on a sacrifice bunt resulted in the Coyotes' first run.
  • The Coyotes took control in the sixth. Samantha Vacko walked and back-to-back singles loaded the bases with no outs. A sac fly cut the Gators' lead to 4-2 and two batters later, Haley Finn tied the game with a double down the right field line. Madison Veldman singled through the left side to give the Coyotes the lead.
  • SF State loaded the bases in the sixth but failed to score. Emily Minteer gave up a two-out single to Diana Gomez in the seventh. Lehua DeLeon singled in the bottom of the seventh but was stranded at second.

  • Emily Mitchell (3-3) struggled with her command. She went six innings but walked seven and gave up five runs on six hits.
  • Natalie Minteer allowed a two-out run in the seventh.

How They Scored

  • Vacko got the Coyotes on the board first with a fielder's choice RBI in the first but the Gators answered in the bottom half of the inning. Samantha Luckie's bases-loaded walk tied the game, then Nina Revoir sent an RBI single back up the middle.
  • Adding on in the first, Samantha Alvarez was hit on her elbow guard and DeLeon drew a six-pitch walk to make it 4-1.
  • In the second, Tianna Jacques laid executed a squeeze play, which scored the speedy Michelle Castro from third.
  • Sturm doubled again in the sixth, which allowed Katie Rohrer to race home for the game-winning run.

  • Minteer (6-5) picked up her third win of the week. She scattered eight hits over six innings but allowed just the one run.
  • Taylor De'Tinne (3-2) took the walkoff loss for the Coyotes. She gave up nine runs, five earned, on 10 hits.
