SAN FRANCISCO —The San Francisco State baseball team split its Sunday doubleheader with Cal Poly Pomona for the series split. The Gators dropped game one 6-1 and took the nightcap 4-1.
- The Gators (14-8/8-8 CCAA) are now 11-2 at home.
- The Broncos (13-8/11-5 CCAA) outhit the Gators 46-32 in the series.
- SF State hit just .232 in the series but as a team are still batting .298 on the season. The Gators drew 18 walks and were 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts in the four games.
- The game two win was the 104th career win for Head Coach Tony Schifano. He passes Al Figgone (1971-74, 77-78) for sole possession of fifth all-time on the SF State baseball coaches wins list.
GAME ONE
- Cal Poly Pomona got the jump on the Gators. Dante Palacio singled and McKenzie hit a two-run shot to left, his second homer in as many days.
- The Broncos doubled their lead in the fourth on RBI singles from Andrew Martinez and Matt Manskar.
- McKenzie drove home another run in the fifth with an RBI single back up the middle.
- Three straight singles for Cal Poly Pomona grew the lead to 6-0 in the eighth. The Gators got the run back in the bottom half of the inning on Jackson Kritsch's RBI single the plated Kyler Crone, who walked.
- SF State had a pair of singles in the ninth but left the runners stranded.
- Riley Cleary (2-1) gave up five runs in five innings of work. He allowed 11 hits but did not walk a batter.
- Luis Salinas went four innings and allowed one run on five hits.
- Cameron Mabee (1-1) scattered just two hits and a walk over six innings while striking out eight en route to the win for the Broncos. Will Rudy gave up the run for the Broncos. Steven Ordorica entered with the bases loaded in the eighth and got a double-play ball to end the inning, then pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.
GAME TWO
- The Gators broke the stalemate in the fourth when Trevor Rogers drove in Jonah Gonzales with a sacrifice fly.
- SF State added some insurance in the fifth inning. Marco Salvetti singled, advanced 90 feet on a wild pitch, and scored on Matt Sugden's single to third base. Gonzales followed with a single and stole second. Gonzales and Kayleb Becerra, who pinch ran for Sudgen, both scored on Kody Gardener's single to center field.
- The Broncos threatened in the sixth. Reliever Mike Manley loaded the bases with one out and gave way to Sebastian Selway. Selway got an out at second on the fielder's choice that got the Broncos on the board, then snagged a screaming comebacker for the third out of the inning.
- Tyler Franks (1-2) had his best start of the season. He scattered three hits and had a walk and a strikeout in four innings of work.
- Manley pitched an inning and a third and was charged with a run.
- Selway got two big outs in the eighth and Nate Jenkins came on in the ninth for his second save.
- Rhys Stevens (2-2) took the loss for the Broncos. He lasted five and two thirds innings and gave up all four runs. Chris Burnette retired the only batter that he faced.
The Gators next head to Cal State Dominguez Hills for a four-game series beginning Friday, March 13.
