SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State men's soccer team scored twice early en route to a 2-2 tie in double overtime versus No. 25 Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday afternoon at Cox Stadium.
- SF State stands at 4-4-1/0-1-1 CCAA while Cal Poly Pomona moves to 3-2-3/0-0-2 CCAA.
- Cal Poly Pomona held a 17-7 shot advantage, including 10-5 shots on goal.
- The Broncos also held a 5-3 corner kick advantage.
- Gustavo Ferrari scored his eight and ninth goals of the season and is now two behind NCAA Division II leader Matteo Costa of Flagler, who has 11.
- Julio Gonzalez Ponce assisted on both of the Gators' goals and is tied for second on the team with three.
SF State had a highly efficient first half. Both of the Gators' shots on goal came from Ferrari off of passes from Gonzalez Ponce. The first goal of the contest came in the 13th minute off of an arcing pass that Ferrari settled and finished to the near post.
Four minutes later, Gonzalez Ponce passed from the top of the box to Ferrari, who cut to the middle of the net and fired to make it a 2-0 Gators lead.
The Broncos wore SF State down and cut the lead in half in the 78th minute when Melvyn Perez Cortez connected with Christian Miramontes. In the 81st minute, the Gators were whistled for a costly hand ball in the box that set up a Broncos penalty kick. Kraig Bonaken's shot was saved but SF State goalkeeper
Matias Herrera Fuentes was ruled to have left the line and CPP was awarded another PK. Bonaken did not miss his second attempt and the two teams went the rest of the way deadlocked at 2-2.
Herrera Fuentes finished with six saves. Cal Poly Pomona's Jordan Aldama made three saves and allowed the pair of Ferrari goals.
