SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco State Women's Soccer Head Coach
John DeMartini has been named 2021 CCAA Coach of the Year. Players
Carissa Capinpin and
Daesha Harper were named to the All-CCAA Second Team and
Glory Smith garnered an honorable mention.
DeMartini, who was previously an assistant and in his first year at the helm of the Gators, took a squad that was picked to finish dead last in the CCAA standings and had them in the upper half of the standings throughout the season. The Gators sat tied in second place for much of the season and even stood in first at one point. The Gators ultimately fell on the final day of the season to CCAA Champs Sonoma State and finished fourth in the conference standings. The Gators finished the season 8-8-3 and went 6-3-2 in conference play. The Gators' season came to a close in the first round of the CCAA Tournament. The Gators played to a 1-1 draw with Cal State LA but lost in penalty kicks.
Capinpin was named to the All-CCAA Second Team as a midfielder. The Concord, California native played in 18 matches with 16 starts. She netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner vs. Cal State Monterey Bay and the equalizer in the CCAA Tournament vs. Cal State LA.
Harper was named to the All-CCAA Second Team as a defender, previously earning an honorable mention in 2019. The Elk Grove, California native started in 18 matches and appeared in all 19 matches for the Gators. She netted a game-winning goal versus Cal Poly Pomona and added an assist in the same match. She logged 1,684 minutes, which was second on the team. On Thursday, she was also named to CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District®.
Smith capped off her senior campaign with an honorable mention at forward. The Newbury Park, California native made 18 appearances with 16 starts. She scored twice and dished out a team-high five assists, which was tied for the lead in the CCAA.
