Basil Othman won both of his bouts on Saturday.
CHADRON, Neb. — The San Francisco State wrestling team started out strong but saw a trio of pins dash their hopes in a 25-19 dual loss to host Chadron State, then fell 32-14 in a dual to No. 3 Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday inside the Chicoine Center.
The 133 through 157 weight classes were strong points for the Gators, as
Stefano McKinney,
Joshua Fuentes Norikiyo,
Basil Othman, and No. 8
Mason Boutain all won their bouts in both duals. Boutain continues to anchor the Gators, as he won by tech fall and major decision. The Gators got out to team leads in both duals but saw those leads evaporate late.
"I was a little disappointed with our finish, but I feel that as a team this is still only our third dual meet back, and we are steady making improvements.I was really proud of how the team battled in our second match against UNK. We woke up and decided to compete; and we had some big, important wins during that match on an individual level," said Head Coach
Jason Welch. "We'll head back ready to make some adjustments on our match warmups and some technical adjustments, and we'll continue on the right path towards March."
The Gators will next head out to Indiana for the Midwest Classic hosted by UIndy, Saturday, December 18 and Sunday, December 19.
