INDIANAPOLIS — The San Francisco State wrestling team saw its most wide-ranging competition yet on Saturday and Sunday at the 42nd Midwest Classic hosted by UIndy. The event is NCAA Division II's largest tournament with over forty Division II programs from 22 states gathering in Indianapolis.

The Gators finished in 25th place out of 41 teams. Joshua Fuentes Norikiyo led the Gators with a perfect 3-0 day on Saturday and finished in fourth place at 141 pounds. He began the tournament with a fall in just 29 seconds over Seton Hill's Joel Cawoski. He then defeated Alexis Soriano, who is ranked No. 8 in the Intermat Rankings, and Christian Small, ranked No. 2 by both the NWCA and Intermat. Fuentes Norikiyo began Sunday by facing Central Oklahoma's Nate Keim, who is ranked No. 10 in the nation. He bounced back from a fall with a major decision over American International's Sean Johnson but was pinned in the third-place match by No. 6 Colby Smith of Lindenwood.

No. 8 ranked Mason Boutain suffered his first two losses of the season. He opened the day with a major decision, then fell 12-6 in overtime. He bounced back with a fall but ended his day with a 7-1 loss to No. 9 Josiah Rider of Adams State.
