Mason Boutain is ranked No. 8 in the nation at 157 pounds in the first NWCA 2021-22 Division II Regular Season Coaches Rankings of the season. As a team, the Gators are receiving votes in the national poll.
The two-time All-RMAC First Team selection and 2018 RMAC champion at 157 pounds, Boutain is off to another strong start after missing the 2020-21 season due to the pandemic. Boutain earned a tech fall in his first bout of the season on November 5 over Western Colorado's Cole Mortensen. He also notched a major decision over Cal Poly's Brawley Lamer on November 20.
At the Roadrunner Open, Boutain finished in sixth place. He earned a 9-0 major decision over Cal Poly's Daniel Vizcarra, a tech fall over Richard Garcia, then lost in a close 3-2 decision to California Baptist's AJ Raya.
The Gators are next in action on December 11 at the Chadron State Duals. The Gators will face off with No. 15 Augustana, No. 3 Nebraska-Kearney, and the host Eagles, who also received votes.
