SAN DIEGO — The San Francisco State women's soccer team came up short in a 1-0 match at Point Loma on Saturday.
- The Gators (0-2) were outshot 9-3 but just 3-1 when it came to shots on goal.
- Kenna Robar, Glory Smith, and Allie Vargas attempted SF State's three shots.
- The Gators created opportunities and held a 5-2 corner kick advantage.
- SF State was also the more physical team. The Gators were whistled for eight fouls, compared to three against Point Loma.
The lone goal of the match came when Point Loma's (1-0) Mara Sovde connected with Alana Diaz in the 30th minute. Robar's shot on goal in the 76th minute was the Gators' best opportunity but Point Loma goalkeeper Emma Hinson made the stop to preserve the shutout.
Marcella Salyer made two saves and allowed one goal in the loss. Hinson earned the shutout for the Sea Lions.
SF State returns home on Tuesday, September 7 to host Hawai'i Hilo at Noon. Fans are permitted but are required to wear face coverings while in Athletics facilities and indoors on the SF State campus.
