SAN BERNARDINO - The San Francisco State women's basketball team dropped a tight contest 68-59 to Cal State San Bernardino at the Coussoulis Arena Saturday afternoon. The turning point of the game came in the third quarter when the Yotes outscored the Gators 26-11.
- Gators fall to 4-7 overall and 2-5 in the CCAA. Cal State San Bernardino improves to 5-7 and 2-4 in the CCAA.
- Muirae Gomez led the Gators with 17 points and also grabbed six rebounds.
- Jolene Armendariz scored five three-points for the second game in a row. She now has three games this season with 5+ three pointers.
- Mya Blake was the third Gator to record double digits with 13 points.
- Ashley Hart matched a career high with six assists.
- Destiny Jackson led the Yotes with 19 points.
- The Yotes outshot the Gators 45.6 to 32.8.
Armendariz opened the game hot from beyond the arch and scored three baskets in the first quarter to help the Gators take a 11-9 lead with 6:07 left in the quarter. Neither team grabbed a lead larger than five points in the first two quarters. Mia Dufresne scored on a layup for the Yotes to tie the game at 30-30 at the end of the second quarter.
The Gator offense struggled in the third quarter as they shot 3-for-9 from the field. The Yotes were able to take advantage of breakdowns on the Gator's defense and score nine of their 26 points off fast breaks.
Down 56-41, the Gators slowly cut away at the Yote's lead. Ashley Hart's layup with 46 seconds left made it a 65-59 game. A foul on the ensuing possession allowed the Yotes to score a basket from the line and essentially ice the game.
San Francisco State will play its first game at home in almost a month on January 13 against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
