LOS ANGELES — The San Francisco State men's team fell 4-0 at No. 8 Cal Poly State LA on Sunday afternoon Stadium.
- The Golden Gators (3-7-4/1-5-2 CCAA) have now lost five straight with their last three contests coming against nationally-ranked teams. The Gators slip to 3-6-4 overall and have lost four straight. The Golden Eagles improve to 10-1-3 overall and 4-1-3 in CCAA action.
- The Golden Eagles outshot the Gators 17-7, including 10-2 on goal.
- Gustavo Ferrari attempted both of the Golden Gators' shots on goal.
- SF State held a 6-5 corner kick advantage.
- The Golden Gators were forced to foul and were whistled for 11 of the match's 15 fouls. SF State also drew two yellow cards.
- Matias Herrera Fuentes and Johnny Kuwano were both out for Sunday's contest. The SF State goalkeeper was serving a red card suspension while Kuwano was serving a suspension for his eighth yellow card of the season.
A minute into play, the Golden Eagles scored on a Daniel Garcia long pass to Alex Rodriguez. Rodriguez beat the goalkeeper and found himself in front of an empty net for an early LA lead. Oliver Diaz made it 2-0 in the ninth minute, and later added another goal two minutes into the second half. Tommaso Belli put the match well out of reach in the 86th minute.
Cooper Matthies made a season-high five saves in his third start of the year but fell to 1-1-1 on the year. Alvaro Unanua (10-1-3) earned the win for Cal State LA and was relieved by Julian Aadlandsvik with just over 26 mintues remaining. Each Golden Eagles goalkeeper made one save.
SF State now returns home for its final homestand of the season. The two-game homestand begins on Friday, October 21 at 11:30 a.m. vs. Cal State San Marcos (5-7-3/3-3-2 CCAA).
