By the Numbers

  • The Golden Gators finish the season at 4-9-5 overall and 2-5-4 in CCAA play. The Seawolves, receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll, finish the regular season at 11-3-3 and tied for first place with 23 points in the CCAA at 7-2-2.
  • The Gators, picked to finish seventh, finish in 10th place after an injury-ravaged campaign. The Gators lost Allie Vargas in the season opener on September 1 and most recently lost Carly Ortega to an injury on Wednesday that forced the defender to miss the final match of the season. As a result, SF State used 15 different starting lineups in 18 matches this season and no starting lineup more than twice.
  • Three Gators played in all 18 matches: seniors AJ Tanner and Julia Hagedorn, and Alyna Flores. Tanner, who was the only Gator to start all 18 matches, played all 90 minutes on Thursday and logged a team-high 1,616 minutes. Hagedorn, who also played all 90 minutes, was second with 1,545.
  • Senior Kylie Schneider played in her 70th career match with her 51st start and played the entire match as well.
  • Sonoma State outshot the Gators 19-7, including 9-4 on goal.
  • SF State held a 3-1 corner kick advantage.
  • The two teams combined for 19 fouls with each team drawing one yellow card.

How It Happened

The Seawolves quickly went up 2-0 with goals in the ninth minute and 16th minute from Annette Sotelo and Julia Horner-Bell. Lexi Zandonella-Arasa, assisted on the first goal, scored in the 22nd minute on a pass from Horner-Bell for her league-leading 13th goal of the season. The Gators got on the scoreboard in the 37th minute. A Seawolves foul set up a free kick on the left side. Hagedorn placed a beautiful ball into the box and Kerby Britton scored a header for the freshman's first career goal. The two teams played a scoreless second half.

Quotables

"We battled hard through an injury-prone season and still figured out a way to compete in every match. We lost Carly [Ortega] yesterday and played with yet another lineup today," said Head Coach John DeMartini. "We went down early and responded with a nice goal from Britton. Credit to both teams. It's late in the season and nobody quit, everybody battled until the final whistle."
