SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco State men's soccer players
Julio Gonzalez Ponce and
Gustavo Ferrari have garnered All-CCAA Honorable Mention.
The duo were the top goal scorers for the Golden Gators, who finished with a 4-7-6 overall record and a 2-5-4 mark in CCAA play, good for eighth in the league. The team's six ties were the most in a season since 1980 and the most in program history, dating all the way back to the program's inception in 1939.
Ferrari appeared in all 17 of the Gators' matches and started all but one. Last year's CCAA Player of the Year and D2 CCA All-America Second Team selection finished this season with six goals and two assists for a team-high 14 points. Two of Ferrari's goals came in CCAA play, the game-winner over Cal State San Marcos on October 21 and in a 1-1 tie versus Cal State San Bernardino on October 23.
Gonzalez Ponce appeared in 16 matches with 15 starts and netted four goals. He scored one goal in CCAA action, in the season finale on October 27 in a 1-1 tie at Sonoma State. The four-year Gator finishes with 43 matches played with 37 starts. He netted seven career goals to go with six assists.
