How it Happened

After Armendariz scored a three to give the Gators their first lead of the day thirty seconds into the first quarter, both teams went cold and a basket wasn't recorded until Tierra Snipes tied things up for the Gators 6-6 with 4:05 remaining. Armedariz helped get the lead back for the Gators as they closed out the quarter up 15-12.

Up 19-15 with 8:39 left in the second quarter, the Sunbirds outscored the Gators 13-3 to close out the quarter.

The Gators had their best offensive showing in the third quarter, turning the ball over once while shooting 50 percent from the field to stay within a possession most of the quarter. Samaria Velazquez made all four of her free throws in the last two minutes of the quarter and a buzzer beater jumper put the Sunbirds up 46-43 heading into the final frame.

Velazquez tied the game up 48-48 with a layup and 7:29 left in the quarter. FPU would take the lead a minute later and never relinquish it. Free throw shooting proved to be the difference maker as the Gators went 2-for-10 while FPU went 6-for-10 in the fourth quarter.
