SB | Former Softball Standout Jordanna Freemer Passes Away

| By:
SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco State Athletics is saddened to learn of the passing of former softball player Jordanna Freemer from cancer earlier this week.

A four-time All-CCAA selection, the Oakley native was part of the 2005 softball team that was inducted into the SF State Athletics Hall of Fame in September. That squad is the winningest team in program history and went on to win the NCAA Western Regional for the first time in program history, and finished fifth at the NCAA DII National Championships. Compiling a 43-21 record, the 2005 team set team records for most shutouts (20), fewest runs allowed (121), fewest doubles allowed (42) and lowest ERA (1.36) in a season. Freemer earned CCAA Freshman of the Year honors and was named to the All-CCAA First Team as a freshman.

Freemer repeated as an All-CCAA First Team selection in 2006 and was also named named to the NFCA All-American and NFCA All-Region Teams. In just her second season, she already ranked in top ten in career home runs, doubles, RBI, and stolen bases.

As a junior, she garnered All-CCAA Honorable Mention and as a senior was named to the All-CCAA Second Team and to the Athletic Department Honor Roll. In her senior campaign, Freemer batted a team-leading .350 and tied fellow All-CCAA honoree Kendra Wood for the team lead with seven home runs and 48 hits.

Freemer remains the Gators' career leader with 33 home runs, 137 RBI, 152 runs scored, and is tied for first with 98 walks. She also finished her career second in hits (244); second in doubles (40, now fourth), third in at-bats (693), stolen bases (56, now fifth), and putouts (631, now tied for fifth); and fifth in games played (229). Freemer also held the record for batting average (.352) until Brylynn Vallejos set a new career record in 2022.
