SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State baseball team played its first game in nearly two years and came up on top over University of Colorado, Colorado Springs 5-3 at Maloney Field. After getting over some early jitters, Jordyn Eglite threw seven strong innings and Gator's offense got going in the middle innings to give Eglite run support.
- SF State sits at 1-0 while UCCS falls to 1-4.
- Justin Clark went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk
- The Gators only hit the ball four times but three of those four hits led to RBIs
- SF State showed off its wheels with four stolen bases. Kyler Crone led the team with two, a new career high.
- Crone also had a team high two runs
- The Gators drew three hit by pitches and three walks.
After giving up a leadoff homerun to open the game, Eglite and the Gators settled down. Eglite allowed another run in the top of the third before the Gator's offense took over in the bottom of the inning. With bases loaded,
Nick Upstill hit a hard ball to first to drive in the first run of the day. Clark's single to center brought two in to give the Gator's the first lead of the day.
The Gators added an insurance run in the fourth when
Matthew Farren hit a ball down the left side and Crone used his speed to come home.
Upstill added an insurance run when
Richie Rios put the ball in play to bring him home. The Gators were in a bit of a pickle in the final inning when a bases loaded situation lead to a run by the Mountain lions to cut their lead 5-3. But the Gators were able to turn a double play with the next batter up.
- Eglite earned the win to start 1-0 on the season. He finished with six strikeouts, three hits, two runs and a walk.
- Mario Vargas pitched a scoreless inning of relief in the eighth.
- Justice Naraghi earned the save in the final inning and only gave up a run.

"It starts on the mound for us and Jordyn Eglite is our leader on the mound," said Head Coach Tony Schifano. "Getting seven innings in your first start of the season is tremendous. Justin Clark with a big two run single early on in the third. I think the difference was a couple double plays we turned."
