TUCSON, Ariz. — The San Francisco State softball team concluded the Desert Stinger with a 4-0 loss to No. 10 Concordia on Sunday at Lincoln Park.
- SF State sits at 5-5 after the first two weekends of play. The nationally-ranked Eagles remain undefeated at 12-0.
- The Gators were limited to three hits, two of which were recorded by Kira Nilson. Kai DeLeon had SF State's other hit.
- Sunday marked the first time this season that the Gators were held scoreless and the first time since 2019, when the Gators were eliminated 1-0 by Western Oregon in the NCAA Division II West Regional.
- Vallejos and Kai DeLeon each had a stolen base, bringing the team's season total to 49 through 10 games. The Gators had 74 through 27 games in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. In 2019, the Gators stole 129 bases in 59 games.
- Lehua DeLeon was named to the Desert Stinger All-Tournament Team. The elder DeLeon hit .471 (8-for-17) and drove in five, while leading the tournament with six stolen bases and making 20 plays at second base. DeLeon is the second Gator to earn all-tournament recognition, with SF State participating in the Desert Stinger for the fourth time this year.
- The fourth inning was the difference in the game. Sprinkle led off the inning with a triple and scored on Rohr's double down the left field line. An error led to an eventual run and a couple of more hits made it 4-0 and chased Gators starter Kaitlyn Maddux.
- Maddux (2-4) allowed four runs, three earned, on four hits. She struck out three but was chased after three and a third innings.
- Madeline Eshbach struck out two and allowed just one hit in three and two thirds innings of relief.
The Gators turn their focus to CCAA play, which begins on Friday, February 18 at Sonoma State. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for noon in Rohnert Park. The four-game series will be available on the CCAA Network with live stats available at sfstategators.com.
