SB | Gators Drop Slugfest in Game Two of Series

SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State softball team completed game two of its series with No. 14 Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday morning after the game was halted due to darkness on Friday. The Gators dropped the slugfest, 16-15.

  • SF State moves to 8-8 overall and 3-3 in CCAA play while the Otters move to 12-3 overall and 4-2 in CCAA action.
  • Nine different Gators recorded a hit and four Gators had a multi-hit game.
  • The Gators' 13 RBI are tied for the most dating back to 2013.
  • Halle Nugent was 3-for-4 with a walk, a run, and three RBI.
  • Dani Guerrera was 3-for-3 with a pair of walks, two runs, two RBI, and a stolen base.
  • Brylynn Vallejos had a pair of hits, including her first homer of the season, which gave the Gators a 6-5 lead in the second inning.

How They Scored
  • The Gators staked a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first only to see the game tied in the top of the second.
  • SF State exploded with an eight-run second for a 13-5 lead but the Otters answered with 11 unanswered runs.
  • The Gators rallied in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI double from Guerrera and an unearned run but stranded the winning run at second.

  • SF State expended four different pitchers. The loss was charged to starter Lexi Holihan (3-1), who gave up 10 runs, nine earned. Madeline Eshbach gave up four runs, two earned. Kaitlyn Maddux gave up two earned runs. Taylor Kelly worked two and a third innings of scoreless softball.
  • Cal State Monterey Bay used three pitchers. Starter Jensen Main was relieved by Kassidy Stetler but reentered after her counterpart surrendered four earned runs. Main gave up 11 runs but just three of those were earned as the Otters made a season-high five errors. Main (7-0) ended up in position to earn the win. An unearned run crossed the plate with Cassie Gasper in the circle but she got the final two outs to earn her second save.
