SAN FRANCISCO - The San Francisco State women's basketball team closed the season with a 71-64 win over Cal Poly Pomona on senior day.
- Gators finish at 10-15 overall and 8-13 in the CCAA. CPP falls to 8-15 and 7-12 in the CCAA.
- In her final career game, Ashley Hart finished with a double-double and scored 15 points while grabbing 10 rebounds.
- Giselle Mahinay got the start on in her final career game.
- Muirae Gomez led the way with 24 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double.
- The Gators won the rebound battle 48-45.
- SF State had 17 assists with Taimane Lesa-Hardee dishing out a team high five.
- The Bronco's Ayah League led the team with 12 points.
Hart's jumper with 4:16 left in the first quarter brought the Gators within one point of the lead. Hart would also be the only player to make a basket the rest of the quarter, scoring a lay-up to put the Gators up 13-12. The Broncos retook a slim lead during the second quarter, but the last shot of the quarter cut the deficit to one possession.
The Gomez-Hart connection proved to be a key part of the Gator's offense in the third quarter as the two connected on six baskets in the quarter including three consecutive baskets to give the Gators a 31-29 lead with 7:41 left in the quarter. The Broncos would tie it up but the Gator offense responded well and went up by as many as 16 points. The Broncos came within six of the Gators but SF State made a few threes to help keep CPP at bay.
"What more can you ask for on the last game of the season, on senior night? to compete and have fun while playing the game the rigth way is all that you can ask for as a coach," Lauded Head Coach Natasha Smith. "Giselle gave us sparks of good energy and Ashley Hart made things happen all game on both defense and offense. Couldn't be prouder of how these two led us all season long."
Prior to the start of the game, the Gators honored seniors Ashley Hart and Giselle Mahinay.
