SAN FRANCISCO — Gary Grosjean turned in a career-high 10 strikeouts and Daniel Santos went yard but the San Francisco State baseball team dropped game two of the series versus No. 19 Cal State Monterey Bay, 9-2, on Saturday afternoon at Maloney Field.
- SF State slips to 8-14 and 3-11 in CCAA action while the nationally-ranked Otters move to 15-7 and sit in first place in the CCAA at 11-3.
- The Gators collected just four hits, the team's lowest output since a February 13 loss to UCCS.
- Freshman Michael Cunningham made his first career appearance with a start in left field. He drove in the tying run in his first at-bat and finished the day 1-for-3.
- Jakob Bouhuys started behind the plate but was injured in a collision at the plate in the first inning. Matthew Farren came in to replace him.
- The Otters grabbed the lead on Brady Miguel's RBI triple and made it 2-0 on Ajamian's one-out single to left.
- In the bottom of the first, Daniel Santos sent the first pitch he saw to left field to make it 2-1.
- Kody Gardner followed with a single, then Alec Smith reached on a fielding error. Cunningham singled back to the pitcher and the ball took a hop off the mound that allowed Gardner to score from second.
- Grosjean settled down after the first until the seventh, when Nico Hartojo and Hunter Harris followed with back-to-back doubles to regain the lead for the Otters.
- Theo Dopkins came out of the bullpen and got an out but surrendered an RBI single to Miguel for a 4-2 Otters lead.
- CSUMB added two more runs in a bizarre eighth inning that included batter interference followed by a balk.
- The Otters added three more runs in the top of the ninth to put the game out of reach.
- Grosjean threw 109 pitches over six and a third innings and racked up a career-high 10 strikeouts. He did not issue a walk. He allowed three runs and a fourth was charged to him.
- Three Gators relievers gave up five runs over the final two and two thirds innings.
- Michael Potter gave up both Otters runs in five innings and settled for a no-decision. Parker Fokken (1-2) pitched four scoreless innings of relief en route to his first win of the season.
