Daniel Santos of the San Francisco State baseball team was named the CCAA Freshman of the Year as announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon. He is the second freshman to earn the honor for the Gators and first since 2012 when Mark Lindsay earned the honor. Santos also was named CCAA Honorable Mention. Joining him on the All-Conference team is
Kody Gardner who earned Honorable Mention as the designated hitter.
Santos played in 44 of the 48 games this season and made 36 starts in the outfield. He became an everyday starter during the Chico State series when he went 9-for-15 at the plate with five doubles. The freshman led the team in batting average (.386), hits (54) and doubles (10). His batting average was also the sixth highest in the CCAA conference. He finished the season with an 11 game hit streak and a 17 game on base streak.
Gardner earns conference honors for the first time in his career as the designated hitter. He is the first player to be honored as the designated hitter since 2016. Gardner player in 45 games with 33 starts making the majority of his starts as the designated hitter. Gardner was second on the team with a batting average of .326. He finished the season with 43 hits, six doubles, a triple and 14 RBIs.
