SAN FRANCISCO - Sammy Gonzales of the San Francisco State baseball team was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District^® Team. Gonzales, a transfer from Butte College, earns the award the first season he is eligible.

The 2022 Academic All‐District^® Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All‐America^® program separately recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. First‐team Academic All‐District^® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All‐America^® ballot. First‐, second‐ and third‐team Academic All‐America^® honorees will be announced in June.

Gonzales, a Business Management major, holds a 3.93 GPA. He is the third Gator to earn Academic All-District honors for baseball.

Starting and playing in all but two games, Gonzales was the heart and soul of the team the past season. Hitting primarily in the lead off spot, Gonzales finished the season slashing .293/.438/.409. He led the team with 38 runs and had a conference leading 28 hit by pitches. Gonzales had 48 hits on the season which ranked third on the team. Nine went for doubles, two for triples and two for home runs.

The Division II CoSIDA Academic All‐America^® program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2021‐22 Division II Academic All‐America^® program.
