GOLDEN, Colo. — The San Francisco State men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday, 2-0, to No. 20 Colorado School of Mines at Stermole Soccer Stadium.
- Sunday marked the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
- The Gators (0-1-1) suffered their first loss of the season while the Orediggers (1-1-0) notched their first victory.
- Mines outshot SF State 16-2 with five shots on goal. The Gators did not record a shot on goal.
- SF State had one shot in each half. Kendrick Rivas recorded the Gators' first shot in the 34th minute but it sailed high. Gustavo Ferrari hit the crossbar in the final minute.
The Gators kept the nationally-ranked Orediggers off the scoreboard in the first half but allowed a pair of goals in the second half. Gabriel Rodriguez ended the scoreless play in the 61st minute when the Gators failed to clear a long throw-in. Azad Iliozer put things out of reach in the 85th minute with his second goal of the season when his shot bounced off the left post and in.
Matias Herrera Fuentes faced 16 shots and made three saves for the Gators. Brian Doherty recorded the shutout for Mines.
SF State returns to the Bay Area for a pair of matches versus non-conference foes before playing the next four at home.
