WRE | Gators Compete Internationally Over the Summer

SAN FRANCISCO – Several members of the San Francisco State Wrestling Team competed globally this past summer. Gators on this season's team represented the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico on some of the biggest stages.

Junior Gage Mettler competed for a spots at the Under-23 and Senior level World Team for Canada. In the course of the selection process, he received a silver medal at the at the Canada Cup in Edmonton, competing at the 79KG. In addition, Mettler 5th at the Senior World Team Trials.

Redshirt Sophomore Aaron Galef competed in the 2022 Maccabi Games. The Maccabiah Games, first held in 1932, are an international Jewish and Israeli multi-sport event now held quadrennially in Israel. The Maccabiah Games are open to Jewish athletes from around the world. With over 10,000 athletes, the Maccabi Games are the third largest sporting event in the world. In addition to many opportunities for cultural exchange, Galef took home a pair of silvers at the Games. He wrestled at 70kg in the Freestyle open and 67KG in the Grecco Roman Open.

Jairo Rivera Vazquez had a great summer, and was selected for the Puerto Rican Junior World Team by winning the Junior World Team Trials at the Puerto Rico Olympic Training Center in Salinas. He has since gone on the be selected for the Under-23 trials this Fall after competing for that spot, and will look to compete at the Under-23 World Championships in Spain this October.
