SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco State infielder
Kai DeLeon has been named to the 2023 California Collegiate Athletic Association Softball Preseason Watch List ahead of the upcoming season.
The sophomore infielder was named to the
All-CCAA Second Team Shortstop in 2022 but will shift to second base this season. DeLeon was one of three all-conference players alongside her sister Lehua and All-American
Brylynn Vallejos, who both graduated. In 2022, DeLeon appeared in all 53 games with 50 starts and was second on the team with a .368 batting average, which ranked ninth highest by a Gator in a single season. She slashed .368/.393/.403, recorded 53 hits, 26 runs, and 15 RBI. She also led team with 11 sacrifice hits and was 12-for-14 in stolen base attempts. She was named
CCAA Player of the Week for Feb. 7-13 and was named the team's
Best Defensive Player. She also excelled in the classroom, where she was named an
NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete.
SF State was picked tied for sixth with Cal State East Bay in the CCAA's preseason coaches poll. The 2023 campaign begins at the Concordia Kickoff Classic, February 3-5, at Great Park in Irvine.
