ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The San Francisco State women's basketball team dropped a 71-53 road contest to Sonoma State Saturday evening at the Wolves' Den. A slow start set the Gators back from the start as the Gators dropped their sixth straight game.
- The Gators fall to 7-13 on the season and to 3-11 in the CCAA. The Seawolves improve to 11-9 and 8-6 in the CCAA.
- Mya Blake returned to the line-up and led the Gators with 15 points. Jolene Armendariz was right behind her with 14 and notched a double-double with 10 rebounds.
- Gators shot 27.4 percent from the field compared to the Seawolves' 42.1
- Fouls led to several opportunities at the line for Sonoma that they were able to capitalize on. Seawolves went 20-for-23 from the charity stripe.
- Both Blake and Taimane Lesa-Hardee had three steals.
After Sonoma State jumped to an 8-0 lead,
Muirae Gomez broke the ice and scored on a pull-up jumper. Shooting fouls gave the Seawolves too many free chances in the first as they capitalized on it to go 7-for-8 from the line. Blake scored on a driving layup with eight seconds left in the quarter and made the and-one basket to cut Sonoma's lead to single digits at 22-13.
Both teams had stretches of offensive struggles in the second quarter. The Gators were able to gain some ground on the Seawolves near the end of the quarter, when a pair of three with under a minute to go cut their lead to 36-30.
The Gators were able to come within five points in the third quarter, but a 13-2 run by the Seawolves gave them a comfortable lead. Armendariz had back-to-back threes to put the Gators within ten points with a little over five minutes to go in the fourth. But the offense stalled, only scoring one more point the rest of the way as the Seawolves continued to build on their lead.
