SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State men's soccer team scored twice in two minutes but so did Sonoma State, who edged the Gators 3-2 in CCAA action on Sunday afternoon at Cox Stadium.
- The Gators fall to 2-6-2 and 0-3-1 in CCAA action while Sonoma State improves to 4-5-2 overall and moves even at 2-2 in CCAA action.
- SF State scored twice, bringing the team's season total to 12 through 10 contests.
- Sonoma State held a slight 12-10 shot advantage, including 7-6 on goal.
- The Seawolves also held a 6-5 corner kick advantage.
- Both teams committed 12 fouls. Half a dozen yellow cards were issued, four to Sonoma State and two to SF State, including each head coach.
Oswaldo Rojas gave Sonoma State an early lead at the thirty-minute mark that SSU took into halftime. After that, it was blink and you missed it as the two teams scored four goals in the span of three minutes. In the 63rd minute, Alejandro Zarate doubled the Seawolves' lead. The Gators answered 45 seconds later off of a set piece. The Gators had a corner kick and Sebastian Alvarez had a good look but had his shot blocked. However, Adrian Vazquez was there with the follow. Just 27 seconds after that, Zarate found the back of the net again to push the SSU lead to 3-1. SF State answered again 47 seconds later when the Gators drew a foul in the box. That set up a penalty kick for Emerson Trujillo, who converted the attempt to cut the lead to 3-2. The Gators had four more shot attempts but were unable to recover from the early deficit.
Mario De La Torre played 64 minutes and allowed two goals with four saves. Fernando Escobedo Guzman allowed one goal over the final 26 minutes. Reinier tet Riet made four saves and allowed both Gators goals but earned the victory.
