Kyle Botelho moved to 2-0 in duals this season and is 5-1 on the season.
SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State wrestling team ran into a very tough No. 13 Chadron State squad on Sunday afternoon in a 40-3 loss inside the Main Gym at Don Nasser Family Plaza.
Kyle Botelho proved to be a bright spot for the Gators, as he notched his second dual victory and moves to 5-1 on the season. The nationally-ranked Eagles sent five ranked wrestlers to the mat, including the first three weight classes. By that time, the Gators trailed 13-0 and had no wiggle room. The Gators forfeited at 184 lb. and were also forced to forfeit at 157 lb. after
Basil Othman needed more time for a head laceration suffered in Saturday's dual to heal.
At 174 lb., Conardo Trevino-Oceguera took an early 1-0 lead, only to see Logan Berger opt to go bottom to start the third period. Berger tied the bout with an escape, then scored a pin at 6:39. In the 197 lb. bout,
Jairo Rivera Vazquez scored two early takedowns but was outlasted No. 19 Eli Hinojosa, who came from behind to win 12-6.
After the dual, current and former wrestlers, as well as friends of the program, joined together at the 2023 Dr. Allen Abraham Luncheon to honor the legendary Dr. Allen Abraham and promote his endowed scholarship fund. Dr. Abraham wrestled and played football at SF State from 1958-61. He earned the FWC title at 191 pounds , a second-place finish at the PCI Championships, and NCAA Division II All-America football honors. His coaching career included five FWC Coach of the Year honors. In 2013, he was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. He also served as a professor of kinesiology and associate department chair. Click
