SAN FRANCISCO — Five student-athletes from the San Francisco State women's soccer have been named to the 2023 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Team, as selected by
College Sports Communicators.
The five Gators selected were among 35 from around the CCAA. The program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the pitch and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Seniors
Alexa Avelar and
Carissa Capinpin both appeared in all 18 contests and each scored a pair of goals.
Senior
Emily Fraye appeared in 17 contests with 12 starts for the Gators defense.
Junior captain
Brynn Reyes appeared in all 18 contests and started 17. She led the team with 1,544 minutes and scored one goal.
For a second year, sophomore
Samantha Shim was an All-CCAA Honorable Mention at midfielder. Shim was the only Gator to start all 18 matches and was second on the team with 1,339 minutes. She scored one goal, a game-winner over Fresno Pacific on September 19, and registered two assists, which led the team.
To be considered for the honor, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 at her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at their position. No student-athlete is eligible until she has completed one full calendar year at her current institution and is at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
Select Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December. The Division II CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Division II Academic All-America® program.
