Gage Mettler got 2023 started right with a first-place finish at 174 lb.
ATHERTON, Calif. — The San Francisco State wrestling team opened the 2023-24 at the Menlo Open. The fifteen Gators placed fifth of 11 teams and were led by Gage Mettler's first-place finish at 174 lb., while four others placed fourth place or better.

Kyle Botelho had a second-place finish at 165 lb. Hayden Ancheta (125 lb.), Basil Othman (157 lb.), Emilio Franco Sandoval (285 lb.) all finished in fourth place. Three more Gators – Sean Yamasaki (141 lb.), Zane Stoddard (149 lb.), and Jairo Rivera Vazquez (197 lb.) – finished in sixth place.

On Saturday, November 11, the Gators will host No. 11 Nebraska Kearney at noon inside that Mashouf Wellness Center. Admission to the dual that day is free. The following day, on Sunday, November 12 at noon, the Gators host No. 13 Chadron State.

Following the dual versus Chadron State, SF State will host the 2023 Dr. Allen Abraham Luncheon, a fundraiser to honor the legendary Dr. Allen Abraham and promote his endowed scholarship fund. Tickets for that event are $95 each.
