Kweli Hernandez-Maitre scored one of two falls for the Gators on Thursday.
REDDING, Calif. — The San Francisco State wrestling team dominated a 41-0 shutout over host Simpson on Thursday evening inside the James M. Grant Center.
The win was the Gators' first shutout dating back to December 9, 2017 when SF State blanked the Red Hawks 50-0.
Hayden Ancheta set the tone in the 125 lb. bout. He scored two takedowns and a near fall before scoring a pin in just 1:53. The next three bouts were all decided by tech fall. At 133 lb., Tony Margiotta scored three takedowns and three four-point near falls. At 141 lb., Sean Yamasaki scored two takedowns, a two-point near fall, a three-point near fall, and a four-point near fall en route to an 18-1 victory. Nationally-ranked Lawrence Saenz moved to 5-1 on the season, and saw his major decision bump to a tech fall thanks to a riding time point. Both teams forfeited at 157 lb. and again at 197 lb., and the Red Hawks also forfeited at 174 lb.
At 165 lb., Conrado Trevino-Oceguera earned yet another tech fall with three takedowns and a pair of four-point near falls, all in the first period. At 184 lb., Kweli Hernandez-Maitre fell behind 5-0 early but battled back to tie it on en escape early in the second period. Towards the end of the period, he scored a takedown and worked the pin. Emilio Franco Sandoval scored an early takedown, then opted to go bottom to begin the second period and earned an escape that led to an eventual 5-2 win in the heavyweight bout.
