How it Happened

Armendariz went 3-for-4 from three in the first quarter to help give the Gators the edge early on. Chico's Haley Ison scored a pair of baskets in the final minute and a half of the quarter to make it a one-point game as the Gator's lead 15-14. In a tight second quarter that featured six lead changes, neither team was able to take more than a two-possession lead. With the game tied with under a minute left in the second, Blake drove to the net for a lay-up to give the Gators a 31-29 lead heading into the locker room. Chico would lead by as much as nine in the third, but it did not deter the Gators. Armendariz made a three point basket and made all three of her foul shots to get the Gators within one possession as they trailed 49-46 with on frame to go.

A jumper from Muirae Gomez tied things up at 51-51 and a lay-up from Armendariz gave the Gators the lead on the next possession. The Wildcats would respond with a 13-0 scoring drive. During that stretch, Armendariz picked up her fourth foul, limiting her minutes down the stretch. The Gators were able to cut the lead to single digits but time was not on their side and SF State could not complete the comeback.
