SAN FRANCISCO — For the second day in a row, the San Francisco State softball team couldn't get the offense going in a doubleheader loss to No. 25 Sonoma State. The Gators fell 11-0 and 8-0, both in five innings, and were on the wrong side of Nichole Sarra's perfect game in game two.
- The Gators (5-8/0-4 CCAA), who are in the middle of their toughest part of the schedule, have dropped seven in a row. The No. 25 Seawolves improve to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in CCAA play.
- SF State's lone hit of the day came from Daniella Guerrera, who singled to left in the fourth inning of game one.
- The Gators made four errors in the two games, which also led to four unearned runs.
- Meanwhile the Seawolves piled up 21 hits.
- Cam Cramer and Hailey Weddington made their Gator debuts in game two.
Game 1
- Kaitlyn Maddux breezed through the first inning and got out of a jam in the second thanks to an excellent on-the-run catch by Guerrera but ran into trouble in the third. Reagan Hunt singled and Anna Zoia-Buescher doubled, then Rylee Nishimoto singled down the first base line, just under the outstretched glove of Marissa Jordan. A Jordyn Martinez sac fly gave the Gators their first out but also made it 3-0 in favor of the Seawolves. A bases-loaded walk made it 4-0 and a wild pitch capped the rally at 5-0.
- An error and back-to-back wild pitches accounted for the first three Seawolves runs in the fifth. A Martinez RBI single chased reliever Taylor Kelly and an Amari Houston pinch-hit single up the middle made it 11-0.
- Maddux (3-3) was charged with six runs, all earned, on eight hits in four and a third inning of work. She struck out four.
- Kelly entered with two on in the fifth and was charged with five runs, four earned, without recording an out.
- Madeline Eshbach gave up a pair of hits and struck out one in two thirds of relief work.
- SSU starter Bailee Reed (6-0) faced just one over the minimum in four innings of one-hit ball.
- Charlie Johnson pitched a perfect fifth for the Seawolves.
Game 2
- Zoia-Buescher led off the game with a single and later scored on a Giana Hays double to left to make it 1-0 in the first.
- In the third, Hunt led off with a single down the third base line and later scored on a wild pitch. Skylar Linnane looped a single to left and left fielder Maddie Scott made a good effort but couldn't corral the diving catch, and two runs came in on the play.
- Eshbach worked into trouble in the fifth. She fielded a Linnane sacrifice bunt but sailed the throw over to first, which allowed not only Hays to score but also Martinez from second to make it 6-0. Later that inning, Hunt doubled home a pair of unearned runs.
- Eshbach (0-1) worked four innings and was charged with seven runs, five earned, in her first start of the season. She struck out a pair of batters.
- Heffernan struck out a pair and allowed an unearned run in an inning of relief.
- Nichole Sarra (4-1) dazzled with a five-inning perfect game for the Seawolves. She needed just 45 pitches. She struck out a pair and drew eight fly balls and five groundouts.
