SAN FRANCISCO - A pair of San Francisco State women's basketball players were named to the 2023 Division II Academic All-District® Women's Basketball Team, as selected by
College Sports Communicators.
Jolene Armendariz and
Muirae Gomez both earned the honor for the first time in their careers.
Armendariz, who has started in all 26 games this season, is averaging 11.4 ppg, 7.7 rebounds and has a total of 35 steals and 10 blocks on the season. The sharpshooter has 63 three-point baskets on the season and broke the school's single season record at Stanislaus State on February 18 with a single game record seven baskets from three. Armendariz is majoring in Business.
Gomez has appeared in all but one game and has made 15 starts this season. She's third on the team in points scored with 210 and has averaged 8.4 points and 4.6 rebounds on the season. The junior from Sacramento is majoring in Psychology.
The 2022-23 Academic All-District® Women's Basketball Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes women's basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in Mid-March.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
