How it Happened

Gators got off to a quick start to open the game and led 11-2 with less than five minutes in the first quarter. The Pioneers used a 24-4 to take a commanding 30-17 lead with 4:36 left in the second quarter. A three-point basket from Lesa-Hardee got the Gators back within one possession but the Pioneers scored on the next possession and maintained a two possession lead the rest of the quarter.

Down 34-29 to open the third quarter, the Gators were outscored 16-6 to dig themselves into a hole heading to the final frame. While East Bay only scored two more baskets than the Gators during the stretch, they were automatic at the line and went 6-for-6. The Gators battled to come back within single digits. A three-pointers from Blake cut the Pioneers lead down to 54-45 with 6:22 remaining. The basket sparked a 7-0 run that made it a five-point game. East Bay called a timeout, drew a shooting foul and made both baskets to end the scoring drought. The Gators kept up with the Pioneers the rest of the way but were unable to get enough defensive stops to win the game.
