CHICO, Calif. — The San Francisco State softball team split its CCAA doubleheader on Friday at Chico State. The Gators were in control in game one, 3-0, and gave up five unearned runs in a 9-5 game two loss.
- SF State moves to 25-19 on the season and 13-15 in conference action. The Wildcats move to 19-22 overall and 12-16 in CCAA play. Cal State San Bernardino split with Cal Poly Humboldt, which keeps the Lumberjacks at 12-16 in CCAA action as well. With the Coyotes loss, No. 11 Sonoma State clinches the CCAA regular season title.
- The Gators' 25 wins are tied for the eighth most in program history with the 2003 and 2016 squads.
- Daniella Guerrera reached every way imaginable on Friday - she singled three times, doubled, tripled, had a home run, was hit by a pitch, and walked. The right fielder extended her hitting streak to 11 games and has now reached safely in her last 12 games with hits in each game of Friday's doubleheader. Guerrera went 6-for-7 on the day, including 3-for-3 with a home run in game one. She how has seven multi-hit games this season.
- Kai DeLeon walked twice in each game and has reached base safely in five games.
- Marley Gonzales went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs in game two.
- Teya Vincent also had a two-hit game, her ninth multi-hit game of the season.
- The Gators struck out a whopping 18 times and left 22 runners on base, including 14 runners in game two.
Game 1
- The Gators took the lead in the second inning when DeLeon drew a bases-loaded walk.
- In the third, Guerrera homered off of the left field foul pole
- In the fourth, Misasi added another insurance run with a homer to left field that made it 3-0.
- Brooklyn Heffernan (10-10) evened her record with a four-hit shutout. She walked two and struck out eight, one shy of her career mark.
- Amelie Valdez (7-9) surrendered three runs on five hits in three and a third innings of work in the loss for the Wildcats. She walked one and struck out seven.
- Mari Bajan Takeda tossed three and two thirds innings of three-hit relief.
Game 2
- After the Gators stranded a pair in the first, a barrage of five runs gave the Wildcats a pair of early leads. The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead and rallied with two outs to make it 3-0.
- SF State evened the game in the second with a two-out rally but the Wildcats were gifted the runs right back. Marley Gonzales got the Gators on the board with a single up the middle and Guerrera tied it with a two-run single. In the bottom of the second, the Wildcats regained the lead when Tayler Berens and Mari Takeda Bajan both reached and allowed runs to score.
- SF State left the bases loaded in the third, and left two more runner in the fourth. The Wildcats made SF State pay with a three-run fourth. Grace Stover and Anastacia Alba walked to begin the inning, and Berens tripled them home. Pitcher Katelyn Oldwin helped her cause with a sac fly.
- Marley Gonzales' flare single down the left field line got a run back in the fifth but the Wildcats got it back on Stover's two-out double to right center that chased Gators starter Kaitlyn Maddux.
- SF State had another chance in the six but left the bases loaded again. Guerrera got a run back in the seventh when she tripled and scored on the play after an errant throw from center fielder Ashley Rocha.
- Maddux had her complete-game streak snapped at nine. She lasted four and two thirds innings. She gave up nine runs, four earned, on six hits. She walked six and struck out a pair.
- Madeline Eshbach came on in relief and walked the first batter she faced. She settled down after that and pitched a scoreless inning and a third. Eshbach did not allow a hit.
- Oldwin lasted two and two thirds innings for the Wildcats and took a no-decision. She walked seven and gave up three runs on three hits.
- Designated player Mari Takeda Bajan (5-5) moved to the circle and picked up the win with an earned run on six hits in four and a third innings of work. She walked three and struck out four.
