LOUISVILLE, Ky. – San Francisco State softball player
Kai DeLeon has been named to the 2023 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II All-West Region Second Team.
This year's NFCA squads are comprised of 204 student-athletes from 112 programs. The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's eight regions with first and second-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated their student-athletes and voted for the teams. All the honorees are now eligible for selection to the 2023 NFCA Division II All-America squads.
DeLeon is a two-time CCAA Second Team selection and led the Gators to a 27-23 finish, with the 27 wins the eighth most in program history. The sophomore second baseman appeared in 47 games, all starts, out of a possible 50 games. DeLeon's .341 batting average was 12th best in the conference, her 30 runs scored were tied for fifth most, and her 46 hits were tied for 13th. All three of those stats led the Gators in 2023. The Turlock native also posted a .964 fielding percentage and had a hand in turning 15 double plays.
The 2023 NFCA Division II All-America teams will be announced on Wednesday, May 24 at the NCAA Division II Championship banquet in Chattanooga, Tenn.
