ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — The San Francisco State baseball team fell in a rainy Thursday afternoon game, 7-1, to the Sonoma State Seawolves at Seawolf Diamond. The offense struggled to get it going and Gator errors and miscues allowed four unearned runs.
- The Gators fall to 26-19 overall and 19-18 in CCAA action while the Seawolves improve to 20-21and 14-19 in the conference.
- With the loss, the Gators slipped into fourth place behind Cal State East Bay. SF State is looking to punch its ticket to the 2023 CCAA Baseball Tournament but will have to wait until Friday. The Gators would also be helped by a loss from Cal State Dominguez Hills, who was rained out in San Bernardino on Friday.
- SF State had three errors in the series opener. They have posted three errors in four games this season, dropping three of the four games.
- The Gators finished with five hits on the day. Daniel Santos was the only Gator to record multiple hits, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
- Sammy Gonzales was the only Gator with an extra base hit, hitting a double in the eighth inning.
A fielding error by
Daniel Santos allowed a runner to score with two outs in the bottom of the third. The Gators stayed within a run up until the seventh when miscues allowed the Seawovles to increase the lead. Sonoma had runners on second and third with one outs. Back-to-back passed balls allowed both runners to come home. With runners on the corners and one out, the Gators got the runner at first out but allowed another run to score.
Gonzales hit a two-out double in the top of the eighth and Santos hit an RBI single to finally get on the board and cut the lead to 4-1. The Seawolves put up another three spot in the bottom of the eighth and took a 7-1 lead going into the ninth.
Derek Laferierre represented the Gators best chance of scoring another run but the Seawolves robbed him of a homer and caught the ball for an out just over the fence.
- Gary Grosjean (3-5) took the tough luck loss after not giving up an earned run for the first six innings. He tossed five strikeouts and gave up three walks and seven hits. With 128 career K's, Grosjean sits at 11th all-time and is one shy of cracking the top ten.
- Andrew Silva, Gabrial Lopez and Ethan Remmers all pitched in relief for the Gators.
- Nik Kamages (1-2) went seven innings in his first win of the season.
