BURNABY, B.C. — The San Francisco State wrestling team traveled to Canada for a pair of RMAC duals, hosted by Simon Fraser. SF State opened the day with a 24-23 victory over RV Adams State, winning on a tiebreaker. The Gators picked up a victory over Adams State for the first time since January 16, 2016. SF State closed out the day with a dominate victory over Simon Fraser, 39-10. The Gators move to 6-5 and over .500 for the first time this season.
A takedown from Tony Margiotta at 133 lbs. proved to be all the points he need to pick up the Gators' first win of the day to get them on the scoreboard down 3-5. A loss at 141lbs put them down 3-9 but Lawrence Saenz recorded a technical fall and Basil Othman won by forfeit to take the lead at 14-9. Adams State came back within one with a win at 165 lbs. Gage Mettler won at 174 to give the Gators a four-point lead at 17-13. Adams State tied the match up with a major decision at 184lbs and took the lead with a forfeit. Needing a fall in the heavyweight bout to tie, Emilio Franco Sandoval delivered and recorded his second straight pin in 2:55. The pin also gave the tiebreaker to the Gators.
The Gators were dominant against Simon Fraser, winning the first eight matches before dropping their first match.
Hayden Ancheta and
Tony Margiotta recorded back-to-back technical falls to start the dual.
Johnny Lopez made his Gator debut at 141 lbs and recorded a fall in 2:04.
Lawrence Saenz had his second technical fall of the day to bring the Gator to lead to 21-0.
Basil Othman made quick work of his opponent and recorded a pin in 27 seconds.

Kweli Hernandez-Maitre all won by major decisions to give the Gators a 39-0 lead with two wrestlers to go.
Emilio Franco Sandoval forced his match into overtime, but was pinned and dropped the match.

The Gators head to the Menlo Open on Saturday, February 3, then host the Oaks for the Gators' Senior Night on Thursday, February 8. The first 100 fans will also receive a T-shirt commemorating the 50th Anniversary of NCAA Division II, of which the Gators are a founding member.
