SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Francisco State women's basketball team fell to Division I San Jose State 92-65 Tuesday afternoon.
- Three Gators scored in double figures with Alexandra Alverado leading the team with 17 points.
- SF State only had six points from the bench while San Jose State had 26.
- The Gators shot 35.8 percent from the field but allowed the Spartans to shoot 52.8 percent.
- SF State turned the ball over 24 times.
- San Jose State was led by Finau Tonga with 22 points.
After Seilala Lautaimi scored the first five points for the Gators, San Jose State went on a 12-0 run to 16-5. A bucket by Alvarado stopped the run with 2:59 to go in the first but the Spartans outscored the Gators 13-5 the rest of the way and only allowed one basket. Free throws from Ana Daniels got the Gators back with 11 but second chance baskets helped the Spartans score on their next five trips to their basket and extend their lead to 53-31 at the half.
The Gators were able to stay pretty even with the Spartans in the third and only were outscored 18-16 but the deficit remained too much to overcome in the fourth quarter.
The Gators stay local for their next tournament and head across the bridge for the CCAA/Pac West Challenge hosted by Dominican. They play Fresno Pacific on November 15 at 5 p.m. Live stats and live video for the game can be accessed at sfstategators.com.
