SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The San Francisco State wrestling team (1-2) split a pair of duals versus Sacramento City College and Southern Oregon (7-0) on Saturday. The Gators opened with a 27-18 victory over host Sac City and ended the day with a 30-14 loss to the Raiders.
Sacramento City stormed out to a 12-0 lead in 125 and 133 lbs with a pair of falls. Andre Dargani won by tech fall, 16-0 in 3:42 to earn five points for SF State in 141 lb.. Ruben Le registered a majority decision, 15-6 in 149 lb., his second win this season, and Zane Stoddard earned six points with a victory by fall in 157 lb., giving the Gators a 15-12 advantage. The Panthers tied things up in 165 lb. with an 8-2 decision, but Zion Bowling Hernandez was able to earn three points with a 14-7 decision at 174 lb.. Tied up at 18-all, Seven Karas won by fall at 197 lb. for six key points to put SF State up late, and Laith Gilmore sealed it in the heavyweight class with a 3-1 decision for the 27-18 victory.
Southern Oregon pulled ahead, 12-0 early with two falls in 125 and 133 lbs., and recorded a 11-2 major decision in 141 lb.. The Gators, who are receiving votes in the preseason NWCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, got on the board with three points in 149 lb. as Le got a 5-2 SV decision, making the score 16-3 after four matches. No. 12 Kyle Botelho notched a 15-4 decision in 165 lb, and Kweli Hernandez-Maitre registered a 16-5 MD in 184 lb.. The Raiders continued to roll with a decision in 157 lb. and a fall in 174 lb.. Gilmore closed things out in 285 lb. with a 7-4 sudden-victory win, but Southern Oregon was able to walk away with the win.
The Gators continue the roadtrip at Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 9 a.m..
